[#2459866]

Further to my post on Brechfa, I've just been looking at the map again and realised the missus has booked us a holiday cottage a mere road spin away from the Preseli Hills.

So a very early morning mid-week ride is being planned before the family are up & about. Any good bits I should aim for or bad bits to avoid?
Planning a night in with some bottles of ale, a map & a highlighter tonight...

We stay in a nice cottage near Carningli most Easter Hols.
Last time I did a nice route by doing what you're planning and sitting down with a map and working a nice circular route out. Was most pleasant and I'm planning more of the same this April.

There was an MTB race starting in Newport a week or so after we left and going up or over Carningli I think - as a part of the Newport Spring Festival - there might be a map of the route on t'initernet.

I rode there from fforest last year, it's quite nice but nothing spectacular, quite boggy in places, bumped into couple of other riders and had a nice time but doubt I'll ever return.

Did a variation of this

Preselis are basically one ridge from Crymych to Cwm Gwaun with several routes dropping off, notably S to Rosebush, that you can use to make a circular of the main ridge or bits of it. You can do a cheeky bit over the top of Foel Cwmcerwyn (??) onto one of the tracks up from Rosebush. There are plenty of bad bits throughout and it is difficult to avoid them, especially at this or most other times of the year. If you are looking for a short spin I guess it depends where you start from.
Carn Menyn is a pretty cool place, as is the Dyffryn Arms in Cwm Gwaun.

There are a few more options than most people realise
Happy to show you some local knowledge if times fit
Also a Brechfa bike club ride every thursday night at 6.30 if you bring your lights
