I've always suffered with it. I start off on Monday looking forward to a race, but come Saturday I start to dread it. I do the race and feel great for it. And so the cycle repeats.
I do get this more in cross races than mtb, don't know why.
Cross race tomorrow, so ๐ and ๐ , but it's driving me ๐ฏ
Is this a common problem?
Are you anything like winning these races?
Not overall, just my age category.
Just chill, it's only the first 5 mins that are mental after that is a breeze ๐
Best way to win an age group for you may be to forget about winning the class and simply finding someone in another category to race against. Choose the right person and you'll win your age class.
when i get butteflies at the gate i try not to think of it as being 'nervous' but just think of it as being excited to start my run. sounds like you enjoy racing so it shouldn't be too hard to think about being excited to start a race, gives a bit of a boost too.
