[#4471534]

Looking at getting my frame powder coated. Can anyone recommend a company in the Leeds-Bradford area that are good with bikes? ie know to cover up the correct areas etc.

Also, what's the difference between Matte and Satin finishes?

Cheers.

Matte - completely dull
Satin - v. slight shine

Well, that's how it is for paint anyway!

Speak to Al @ Garage Bikes, Morley. He doesn't do it, but apparently knows a man who can.

'Orange' in Halifax have an acid bath to strip the paint and a re-spray service*

I'll second Triple-S. Used them twice now and have no hesitation in using them again if needed. Relatively cheap (can get frames done a LOT cheaper but you definitely get what you pay for) and they'll mask off all bearing/bottom bracket/headsets surfaces etc.

My Blur 4X was about £100 from Triple-S incl dipping. They specialise in old motorbike stuff etc so know how to treat stuff (ie, they're not going to go blasting your thin walled steel frame with ball bearings to remove the paint!).

If you want cheap and semi decent, theres a place near the station in Sowerby Bridge who did a frame and forks (incl. stripping) for £35. Wasn't the best job but for £35 is was good. Didn't need it to be perfect as it was only an old hack.

Just don't use Specialised Coatings (???) in Halifax. They're more used to coating things like fire-escapes and it showed when they did my old Soul. Had powder in every surface and an orange peel effect.

Its true about Orange. They're expensive though and turn their noses up at repainting anything that doesn't have an Orange badge. Top notch work though.

Alternatively, if paint's an option, then Bob Jacksons in Stanningley did a great job on my Genesis

Thanks for all the responses guys.
Woody, I've had a gander at Bob Jackson before, was it the 'enamel' you went for?

That purple Giant(?) is lovely with the fleck lacquer.

I'd give these guys a go...Cas Coatingsin Bradford.
Cost me £15 to have my frame blasted, and he said it'd be the same again to powder coat it. : )

Triple S are the boys. They did some lovely work for me on motorbike parts. Wee bit cranky on the phone though 🙂

CAS Coatings are awesome.

Used them loads.

£72 for a set of 4 x 18" alloys Sand Blasted and Powder Coated !!

Other places charge substantially more than that for ONE wheel.

I know a couple of people who've had frames done too. Very nice work.

I can vouch too much for Triple S. Our road bike frame coated just fine however it kept the same chips as the painted version. So those chips clearly were not removed with the 'blasting' so sadly I can't recomend.
