My first group ride so was a bit apprehensive but really enjoyed it, what a thoroughly nice bunch! Glad the enormous hairy fella made such an impression on you Bunnyhop 8) I may attach a basket to my bars next time for the collection of trailside fauna and flora!

A nice chilled ride, well organised and with a great atmosphere. Really enjoyed it. Ok, so there were bits that were less enjoyable than others, something to do with the terrian? but really good route. Special thanks to nbt who seemed to overtake me several times to get to the gate first ๐Ÿ™‚ (apologies for the sfb dig )

Twang the pace was slightly quicker than normal but the vibe is the same. ๐Ÿ™‚

Pity we didnt have any carpark wheelies (Pook) ๐Ÿ˜‰

Or carpark handbrake turns (Robdob) ๐Ÿ˜‰

...and sadly the Cakemiester wasn't able to attend however Pool whipped out a creamy Swiss roll from nowhere ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

nope, i was under orders from the wife, she did however take me to see Sheffield Roller Derby which just seems to involve tattooed girls in spangley knickers listening to punk wearing roller skates shoving each other over. I'm sure you guys had fun but that was a more than acceptable alternative to riding with you lot.

the pics look well good

Thanks Pook.

As usual the very, very steep bit, looks as flat as a flat thing.
Also it was really warm and sunny. Looking forward to the next one.

I know - i seem to remember it being glorious, not a cloudy grey day as is shown here.

However, I don't remember there being any steep downhill bits. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Professional photographer? Where on earth did you get that from? I'm a journalist dear boy, but if I were to write up the ride I'd get shot down on here for being pretentious!

I'm just bloody glad I managed to stop at the bottom of that tarmac section coming off Lantern Pike, before I hit Pat.

Me: Slowrider lets go back up and see if everyone is ok on this section
Slowrider: 'ok'

Me: Err slowrider you have far too much energy to be able to actually RUN back up to have another go

It's the birthday boy himself Adey: rather than railing it though that's the moment when he realised there was a camera pointing at him. Sadly as his front wheel washed out entirely and he went down I involuntarily stopped taking pics out of concern for his well-being.

Thank you all muchly for a great ride, the haribo types and swiss roll. We should do this more often.
Brakes all fixed now, I had it all done without burning any bridges. I highly recommend single brake riding for that added jolt of adrenaline.

Cut Gate would be a good one for August. I think was Pooks sugestion of the next one. Moorland singletrack through heather in flower - I feel a show us your moorland singletrack photo thread coming on for next month. I'd prefer to hold Macc Forest / Wildboar clough over to September or October.

I did indeed suggest a Cut Gate out and back with a snack break at Fairholmes. Just need to check a date with my good lady and I'll post something up - not too far in advance mind....

Thanks Jules & Chris for a great ride on Saturday. I've just about sobered up now. Top photo of me there Pook, but the one of me on the ground would have looked even better no doubt! Great ride in fantastic company. Can't wait for the next one.

I was thinking of trying to lead one round Macc forest September/October time, but could do with someone who knows the area to act as backup.

The trouble with Macc forest and Wildboarclough is that there is a significant amount of road required to join up the sections and also the forest is a haven for walkers at the weekend.

I know a route from Derbyshire Bridge > Buxton > Taxal > Fernlee reservoir > Dervbyshire Bridge which is quite nice.

However road to Derbyshire Bridge is closed at the moment, should be open in September though.

Any takers?

Matt

Matt, both Bruce and I know Macc forest stuff. The taxal loop is fine on a bike, the workmen are happy for you to push past, they even told us the best route to take when we did that a couple of weeks ago

That would be me - only green commie there.
It wasn't a fall, no really, just an abrupt stop when I thought I needed to turn left across the bridge, but didn't...

You rode over my tyre?. Hisss.

Nice pics nbt.
