Hi
I think the issue was air shocks if I remember correctly.
In any event I’ve always used Parcelforce and just declare it as a bike part.
Never had any bother.
Cheers
Steve

Is this the whole pressure vessel argument?

From what I gather via the world of air rifles its not ever been resolved but whilst RM and PF are a fair bet other couriers should be avoided like the plague.

Royal Mail prohibit any "compressed gas", including empty gas cylinders. So that would probably cover air shocks.
Though can't see any rules that would affect coil shocks?

If there's uncertainty regards RM and PF is there any other couriers who I could use. Drop would be better as I may not be around for collection.

I used dpd when I sent my shock off for service. Arranged it all online and was provided with a postage label and barcode to print off and stick to the box. My local collection point was a branch of matalan and got it delivered back to my home address. Was provided with all the tracking details etc. Was all hassle free

I thought the issue was primarily with using RM?
There was a bloke on here a few years ago who had a shock go missing & it turned out RM had deemed it dangerous & it never got where it was supposed to be going.
There was a bit of digging work done & someone found that pallets of 'unsafe' stuff was being sold at auction to people who were flogging it all on ebay.

Last time I got a shock serviced, I asked the place doing the service to arrange for postage & I paid a bit extra for the peace of mind.

Silverfish (Fox) used DPD (drop) if you opt to use their collection service.

I can't comment on that but what I do know is that you're more likely to be given the opportunity to collect it from a depot with RM and PF than other couriers who will just toss it. It is a massive risk nontheless and I would encourage anyone to use the servicing company's pickup service as you did.

Thanks for the replies.
Its being sent to TF but i cant be around if i arranged for then to collect. So dropoff is the only option. I'll use DPD some have mentioned that TF trust them and that's good enough a reason to.

Just bear in mind there is a difference between the things trade account holders can send and what joe public can send.

Here's the thread that I mentioned above - it's quite a long one...

Yeah, read the first page and absolutely consistent with every PCP (pre-charged pneumatic) rifle thread ever. It's a bugger and as far as I can tell only trade account holders can send items otherwise classed as dangerous goods (I believe this includes pickup services as I had a gun picked up which had a paintball HPA tank hanging off the back).

Advice for RM terms and conditions is to ALWAYS check the website, there are always three copies in circulation at any one time (website, Post Office counter leaflet and the full bhuna T&C's) and from the full version ONLY what is published on the website is valid. NEVER rely on or trust Post Office counter staff to give good advice as half the time they don't know the rules (no, an air pistol is not a prohibited item, yes, that's why it shows the outline of a sub-machine gun) or just make them up to suit themselves depending on how the wind is going, even when they phone up the person on the other end often feeds them the same rubbish.

I believe there are certain services you can use that guarantee it will go by road, the main problem seems to be if they get moved by air freight and get picked up by the X-Ray in Belfast (for airguns at any rate). But again, my advice would be to either get a pickup service or drop it off yourself, I imagine a bike shop could send it as well.
