Just trying to judge whether other people have similar problems. Had a relatively long weekends riding, and ate well both during and after the ride. However, today, whilst at work, I seem unable to stop the hunger pangs. Does anybody else suffer a delay in hunger, from a couple of days of hard riding? I assume it's the body's way of replenishing lost calories, vitamins etc.?

yes I suffer from this. Yesterday I had a massive chilli and chips and a tin of peaches. 2 hours later I'm eating 3/4s of a vienetta, a bananas and satsuma. Could be post ride hunger... could be worms!

The thinking is now that you need a high carb (low GI) meal in you before 20 - 4o mins is past after the ride. This will aid recovery.

I have the same issues, trying to lose weight but if I exercise at all my hunger goes on for days and is almost unstoppable, counteracting the point! I notice I get HUGE sugar cravings too, other foods just dont cut it.

I had a quite a hard week last week - quite a few runs rides and weight sessions, along with several days of significant calorie deficit.

This morning I just couldn't get up to speed on my run and I've been starving all day, and I've eaten almost as much by lunchtime as I ate all day last week. I've been feeling cold too.

I'm going to take it easy on the aerobic exercise for a few days and eat sensibly too (i.e. eat good food, and not aim for a calorie deficit) and treat this week as a recovery week.

eat appropriate food within 30 mins of hard exercise or you'll find yourself showing symptoms of exhaustion.

Think of your increased food intake as reward for working your body hard ๐Ÿ™‚

In the summer with guiding most days, weekly thursday races and big events throughout the season - I pretty much dont stop eating. Last summer I didn't ride as much but still managed to maintain my typical summer eating volume - oops ๐Ÿ˜‰

I've been making sure that after gym sessions and long rides I'm consuming a recovery/protein drink to try and aid recovery of aching muscles etc, and I also eat pasta or similarly high carb based meals after a weekends riding, yet still end up hungry, primarily just before bed! Maybe I need to take a review of my current diet and incorporate carbohydrates at lunchtime?

Chocolate milk after a ride does it for me.

Apparently there was a study printed in a tri mag which showed it was better than specialist recovery drinks.

I'm a greedy pig all the time anyway, don't notice I'm much more hungry the day after a ride.
