[Closed] Post mount adpater not looking right

[#5127293]

I've got an Avid 185mm post mount adapter that I have used to mount a juicy 7 caliper on a fox 100 rlc fork. And it doesn't look quite right, the adapter doesn't seem to be quite the right size.

Can anyone point me at what the right one should look like? I assume this caliper is direct mount with a 160mm rotor.

cheers

Have you remembered to fit all the avid CPS mounting washers, and in the right order? They MUST be used with an avid caliper, irrespective of mount used.

Yep. I may give it another go, though.

Good advice. The only exception is if you've got new Avid brakes, like X0 Trails. Completely unrelated, I know (as you've got Juicys), but doing away with the CPS washers has made working on my X0 Trails an easy job now. Good call from Avid. If only they'd done it sooner.

I think know what you mean. If it is similar to mine it always feels like one of the two bolts is trying to cross thread itself, because the cps bracket and caliper as forcing it into a slight angle. I ditched the Avid mount and brought a North Shore billet 185mm adaptor which allows you to attached the bracket to the fork and then the caliper to the bracket so any slight misalignment of holes is instantly removed.

You have got the adaptor on the right way up?

Does it look as odd as mine... ๐Ÿ˜•

takisawa - you have too many washers between the caliper and mount - there should only be one pair of cup/cone washers under the caliper, not 2.

Something strange going on there . As stated you should only have 1 pair of washers either side of the caliper and yet the pads seem to be hitting the disc exactly right judging by the wear on it .

See, now that's what I thought too...but if I take the washers out the caliper hits the disc (radially).
And that's an Avid adapter, albeit branded as a +20mm for Elixir.

Superstar do one that looks like it will be a better fit, but I haven't got around to fitting it yet. It works ok.

I think takisawa2 issue is using a 160-180 adaptor in a 165-185 setup, youd think it would work as they are both +20mm but (obvious now) due to the angle of the post mounts there is some difference, so a proper 185mm adaptor is required... or a sweet bodge as shown ๐Ÿ˜†

foxwelljsly - i think you need to confirm exactly which adaptor you have, and which brake (year?). Im not knowledgeable on Avid stuff so ill let someone else confirm your issue, but they will prob need that info (and pics if possible)

It's not a 165-185 set up though - it's 160-185. But you could be right - I assumed it was an Avid adaptor - but it could well be a 180 adaptor on there, hence wouldn't work.

The two domed washers must be either side of the brake 'hole', domed side out, flat side on the caliper and the two concave washers then go on these with concave side onto the domed washer and flat sides 'out'. This makes the brake caliper 'hole' bit into a sort of ball and socket joint that can move about before being aligned and tightened up. takisawa2 seems to have his washers a bit arse-about-face imho.

So the 2 extra washers have taken up the extra 5mm needed using a 180 adapter with a 185 rotor .
