Possibly stupid question re disc brake adapters

Are they standard? I'm looking at buying some second hand Hope Minis, do I have to have brake specific adapters for my bike or will any work? I'm pretty sure I've used generic ones with other brakes. Spec is as follows:

Front:
IS fork, 203mm disc, Post caliper

Rear:
IS frame, 185mm disc, IS caliper

Depends I use a shimano one and another none hope one but my hope adapters wont work with my Avids till I adapted them with an angle grinder.
I assume Hope are quite wide and therefore most others will be ok
