Having just received a tax rebate I'm thinking of treating myself to a new bike for commuting/pub bike, the pompino is pretty much at the top of my list. Having only rode mountain bikes and never singlespeed the idea of 48/16 gearing sounds quite daunting, is it a big gear to be pushing or is it not too bad with skinny wheels and tyres, my commute is around 8 miles each way and pretty flat, I could always get a bigger freewheel if its too much I supposem

I think I'm running 48x16, but I do live in the Fens.

I found that 48-16 was spot on for my Langster. We don't have many big hills here but those we do are either fairly short and sharp or long and gradual. Made me work hard on those, kind of miss it as gears just aren't as fun!
