No circumstance at all I just liked the phrase...

Here's my new Pompetamine, only commuted on it so far (choked with a cold) but it feels ACE and is making me inspired me to do long road/dirt road/off road bivvi trips etc (also planning a 1000km tour in the summer). Second pic is my bodge of a cable stop. May try and make a gear hanger that remains attached to the frame too. If the romance continues I can see a nice lighter frame being bought in the future.

I now "get" cx bikes. Seems to me they are the evolution of the 80s rigid mountainbike - light, efficient, no spongy suspension not quite as capable off road as a proper mountainbike.

I have triples on all my road bikes.

It's actually compact BCD too 😉

did you sneeze on the lens for the first shot?

and you seem to have forgotten the bar tape too?

I like the cable stop, though - very neat 🙂

Thanks friends, am glad the al-haterz have not made it here yet.

Yes - no bar tape, still epxerimenting with those bars, not sure yet, I've not previously liked ergo-bars. May lengthen the drop a bit with some CF.

Yes the Desire takes dreadful pictures, I need to sort the lens cover.

The great thing about the Pompino/Pompetamine (apart from being a great bike) is it is cheap enough to do modifications like drilling holes without sweating that you're going to ruin it.

Neat mod.

Lovely, liking the cable routing, much tidier than on mine. Might just have to learn how to braze and put cable stops on it..... It's certainly my most used bike atm.

What bodge or what cable stop have you used on the down tube? Commercially available?

This makes no sense though.

It's from SJS - "backstop" or something? Nice but kind of bulky and £17 😡

Spent the afternoon making my own gear hanger..missed a trick in the design but it looks like it will work OK, just need to find a M10 tap or a dropout-saver to screw the mech into (Tried to make a tap out of an axle but it's too soft).

Bodge-tastic!
