Quick question for the inevitable lime expert that must be a member on here.
I need to repoint some joints on the gable end of my house. Been reading up about hydraulic and non hydraulic lime and non hydraulic seems more common, but has to be bought as pre slacked putty, but then this site http://www.limestuff.co.uk/pages/user-guides/hydraulic-or-non-hydraulic-lime.html got me thinking that I should use hydraulic as this is obvously for exterior work. It also seems easier to get as I can just pop to Travis perkins while getting slacked lime seems a bit tougher.

I use this for repairs at work [url= http://www.masonsmortar.co.uk/knowledge/page/hourdex ]Masons Mortar[/url] very easy to use, just like mixing normal concrete but we use a courser aggregate in the mix.
So do you throw a little plastering sand into the mix rather than just soft sand?
Speak to the guys at Stone-Tech, they were very helpful when I had to spec a lime mortar at work.

Its a very course type of sand, can still see bits of shell in it, but it's to blend in with the original pointing.
