The 10 mile road to work will now include about 4 miles along a canal towpath. Cyclocross tyres look like they'll be too much of a drag on-road, so I guess I'm after a road tyre that will manage along the canal towpath. Cheers

Search for my post the other day - pretty much asked the same question.

Personally, I'm a marathons kind of guy, tried cx comps, but they wear too fast and lead to loads of punctures. The marathons have run for about 200 miles, roll well and grip a bit on mud too. Hoping they will last for ages too!

If you're riding 6 miles road and 4 miles towpath and the towpath is muddy then look at Schwalbe Marathon Extremes (700 x 35 I'd say).

Not cheap but roll surprisingly well on the road and pretty grippy in mud, I have ridden cyclocross (slowly) with one on the back and didn't find it bad at all.

i think landcruisers for that kind of thing, they are tough, have a continuous center so fairly quick for a a tyre that has grip and edge. cheap too but a little heavy for cx tyre
