Excuse my ignorance.....

Do you buy different calipers for different disc sizes with the post mount system?

Or does one caliper fit the smallest disc and then are spacers used for larger sizes?

Or does it vary with manufacturers?

One caliper size then different adaptors (spacers) according to rotor size. The Superstar website has a good page to help you choose the right adaptor.

With the older IS calipers you would often get calipers machined for a specific disc but you could get adapters to increase the spacing.

With post mount on forks the caliper bolted straight on is for 160mm and you use adapters to space out for bigger discs - eg +20, + 40 etc.

Not sure about frames as some might be designed to take a 140mm disc without an adapter.
