Personal Locator Beacons are now allowed for land use. Walkers and cyclists are reckoned to be their largest user base.

The UK’s top police officers have welcomed the change in rules that allows the use of emergency beacons for walkers and other outdoor enthusiasts for the first time. The officers said the use of personal locator beacons could potentially save lives and reduce the risk to mountain rescue teams and other rescuers

Do you plan to get one?

I'm undecided. I'd like to see more details of satellite coverage in the upland areas and it's yet another device to carry around on a "just-in-case" basis.
