I have a 20mm bolt through Pro II (front) and there's real play in the most outboard part of it (not sure what it's called). That wobble's still there when bolted up properly in the fork. I feels like a lose headset.

New bearings or something else to check?

Thanks

Yep, New bearings. There's nothing to adjust or tighten in those. Everything just presses together with the end caps held in with a snap ring each.

I have plastic pipes, a vice, a mallet and specific tools. Possible? Stupid?

Mine are replaced using a socket set and a mallet. You'll be fine

Replaced and all sorted. Thanks for the replies. A mallet and the old bearings made a good drift.

I have stars in front of my eye from undoing the circlip with an Opinel (but in the last 30 minutes I've been able to open it and do have full sight).

Asking if it's possible to bruise an eyelid is for another thread.
