New Specialized saddle.

Comes packaged on a plastic sheet.

What's wrong with cardboard, which can go straight in the recycling bin rather than me thinking what do I do with this plastic crap?

Depends where you live, as here (Buckingshire) they don't recycle cardboard (roadside), but they do plastic.
