I've been looking for a road bike around a grand. Kiron Scandium is sold out in my size, not sure I fancy a Focus Cayo, most big bike companies are looking around £1500 for a decent spec carbon bike.
So I am trying to convince myself that the Stealth Carbon is a good value buy, am I right?
Yes.
Why not the Cayo btw?
Cheers for the validation Chris! Druidh I have read lots of good reviews of the Cayo but also some whinging about the finish of the frame. I've sold a bike and some bits and bobs so I am tempted to spend a bit more, and I love the Stealth in white. I was looking at the Bianchi C2C as it is meant to be a real mile muncher, but its hard to find them under £1500, you can build a lovely Stealth Carbon for that.
Shandy - just wondering, coz I have a Cayo. Mind you, I can't see anything wrong with the finish on it either. Got any links to these reviews? It might give me something to be aware of.
Is the Stealth not their time trail frame though? Very different to the other race frames you mention..
If it is, then I would say it's not a good purchase at all unless you specifically want to do time trials, and even then I'd argue that getting something that specialist on it's own isn't a good idea.
There are plenty of other options such as the ribble sportive ( another well specced bike ) or a Dolan mythos or maybe a dale synapse 105 spec ( very comfortable frame). But if it was me I would try and find a bit more cash, few hundred and go for a Time speedster. I had an edge first and it was a great frame, superb ride and very well finnished coming from a high end manufacturer with a real racing pedigree. I know the speedster is sourced from Taiwan rather than france but by all accounts its still a great bike.
Druidh, I didn't favourite the threads but I think it was roadcyclinguk forum or something, they had a lot of "bike for a grand" threads and there was at least one person who had returned theirs. The issue seemed to be an irregular "bubbly" finish but it was affecting new frames, so if yours looks alright now you should be fine. TBH there were a lot of roadies doing down the entry level carbon frames, which I reckon is just snobbery. I'd be surprised if there was much difference between the different Cayos apart from paintwork and components.
Traildog you're right, the Stealth is TT, its the Pro Carbon I am after.
Cool - I'll have a wee nose just in case!
