Hi There,

I'm looking to build a CX/Touring/Commuter bike and decided to go with Kaffenback frame rather than a Pompino. I had a look at On-One Pompino and it looks like it's an identical frame, is this correct?

If so, The On-One website the Pompino size chart indicates for 5'7(my height)Medium(51cm)frame and for Kaffenback frame Small (48cm). Assuming they are both identical frame geometry.

Not sure if I should go for a small or medium.

I just want to get the sizing right as I'm from Melbourne, Australia not England. Returning an incorrect frame back might be a headache

any help would be appreciated.

If they are the same geometry then its probably because one is sized to be used with drop bars and the other with a shorter stem and mtb style bars...this has a big effect on the top tube length you need.

I'm 5'7" and ride a small new style kaffenback with drops and a 70mm stem - wouldn't want it any bigger. Could happily get away with it for flats as well with a 110mm plus stem, or go up to a medium with something a bit shorter.

Have a Pompino and a Kaffenback in the garage here. Both a few years old, both the same size (large), same geometry and both are ace.

Also have experience of the new Kaffenback frame (with the swap-outs). They've ruined it!!
The new Kaffenback has much more chunky chain and seatstays, the chain stays flare out a lot (beware if you ride heels in), and it weighs loads more than the old one. Difficult to get a rack on too.

I'd recommend trying to get an older, non swap-out Kaffenback (Or Surly Cross-check). For size, measure the effective top-tube of whatever you have now (if it fits!), and go with the Kaff that is closest to that.

I heard if you say his name 3 times whilst looking in a mirror he appears to answer tech questions...

What's the standover height like with the small frame?
