[Closed] Planet X bikes - misleading advert - common?

[#3581223]

Just ha a note from Planet X telling me that the 2012 reverb I'd ordered at a good price hadn't materialised, but they'd got a load of 2011 ones from their suppliers instead, and would I like that?

Is this common practice from them, or just an unfortunate one-off? Am wondering whether to follow it up with a complaint to the ASA for misleading advertising and taking my money in advance with no intent to supply the advertised goods, or whether it's just a simple cock-up and they're as annoyed as I am.....

previous history would help decide the approach.....

I can only apologise and assure you it's not company policy to mislead customers.

We did have some 2012 Reverbs at one point, and I would imagine with them running out of stock, replacements sought and then those being a previous model year...

Apologies on our behalf.

Given how disorganised Planet X/On One have always appeared to be, I see no reason to assume this is anything untoward.

and I'd love to buy the sale stuff but the long sleeve tees out of stock then discontinued, only to pop up in the States. SS frame, that went on for ages to be finally told discontinued and this evening black Fleegles in the sale, not in stock. I love On One stuff, but my fleet and parts are gradually turning Surly...........

It's not as if they'd just supplied you with the 2011 model without letting you know - it's hardly misleading when you (presumably) had the chance to take a refund instead.

FWIW they've always been great with me.

Give over y'monkey.

Planet X are not capable of evil internetness, they are not organised enough!

They've always been good with me, but if they weren't it would be due to daftness rather than evilness.

Incompetent? Absolutely.
Dishonest? I'd like to think not.

Guessing the OP didnt actually speak to planet-x before posting?

Never had a problem with them personally, and would have a conversation with them before posting online if I did...

I'd agree with all above, most likely just disorganised. I've always been happy but have to be careful to check descriptions, prices, pictures etc as the website is sometimes a bit iffy on the info front.

thanks for the replies, all.

Will happily take them at their word that it's a cock-up then. (often not true in other areas of life, hence the q - pleased to see some happy (and mildly less so) customers defend them).

(did have a conversation with them, but wasn't convinced by it, hence the post - thanks too to brant for the honest defence here)

nah not dishonest. No more incompetent than crc, wiggle...in fact so far p-x/0-0 haven't led to my credit card being skimmed so that's a positive!

I've only ever had good dealings with planet-x and On One.

They changed my wheels from white to black but emailed to ask if that was fine and apologised. Then they shipped them to me for free on the continent due to the delay missing me in England. So they do screw up but they seem to make it good.

Very good experience here, across all 4 frames plus a bucket load of bits and bobs from them. Just unfortunate I guess that they ran out of stock and the replacement stock was 2011 for one reason or another...

Never had a prob with them. Best thing to do is phone them or drop in to the shop. They were great with me when my back wheel had lost a spoke replacement wheel was here in a day after I dropped off the damage one with them.

same thing as the OP... pre-ordered the reverb. had a call from somebody (jamie i think it was?) yesterday on the mobile explaining that they had been sent the 2011 ones without the bleed kit and offered me the chance to cancel the order and get my money back. Nicer to be called than an email and more professional than being sent the 2011 one without telling me first!

bit frustrating not getting the bleed kit as I've now had to order one from another website as all reviews say it needs bleeding first or the post return rate is too slow.

Frustrating... yes, feel a little bit out of pocket... yes, but I just want my damn reverb so carried on with the order and am hoping it arrives today or tomorrow!

Mistakes happen. Maybe they have more than their fair share, I don't know, but they make good on it. Had the wrong frame delivered but they popped the correct one in the post next day without the wrong one being collected yet. Had to even chase them to pick up the wrong frame! - almost had two frames for the price of one ๐Ÿ˜€

Have been impressed by replies to enquiries I've made. Other certain big popular bike retailers people almost worship never respond to my emails.

does look like a fairly inconsistent advert... methinks it has been updated for OEM, but not checked properly. Also, no mention of the model year.

http://on-one.co.uk/i/q/SPRSREV/rockshox_reverb_adjustable_seatpost

Adjustable posts are all the rage these days and judging by recent reviews, this is the best of the lot!
With full hydraulic action (instead of cable actuation) and seals which would be at home on a suspension fork, this post is super reliable and smooth in all conditions.
Infinitely adjustable travel is available via the remote hydraulic lever.
The speed of compression and extension is also infinitely tunable, via a knob on the bar mounter lever.
To top it all off, this is one of, if not the lightest adjustable seatpost currently available.
All posts come with a bleed kit in case you need to change the hose length.

Features :
o 125mm adjustment range
o Hydraulic remote actuation
o Adjustable height reduction and return speed
o Triple-lipped energized sealing system
o Bleed kit not included
o Travel: 125

(my emphasis)

Dave

edit: swapped 'misleading' for 'inconsistent' - i don't think it is deliberately misleading.
