I know it's probably been done before but I can't find it.
I'm 5'10" and torn between the medium and the large. My current Trek 1000 has a 57cm top tube (horizontal) and feels a (very*)little bit too long with a 100mm 17deg drop stem.
I was thinking of going for the large as the 480mm seat tube will leave me with heaps of post showing and I normally go for slightly bigger mountain bikes as I've got long legs (I ride a 18" on one).
Will I be able to tweak the geometry by using smaller drop stem. Is less than 100mm for a stem on a road bike a bad idea?
*If I invert the stem so it rises rather than drops I can remove about 10mm of spacers and it's perfect for lnog rides. Normally 60-70 miles proves no problem in the more aggresive position.
Give them a ring or email them - they're normally pretty good with advice and now the chaos of the current offer has calmed down a bit they should be more accessible ๐
I'm 6' and ride a large and if anything, the stem is slightly too long with the large build kit, and with a 32" inside leg I have about 5" of seatpost showing. I'd maybe go for the medium, or a large with a medium build kit ( which I think has a 90mm stem rather than 110mm)
I went down to Gloucester way for a fit out at one if their guys homes which was useful but unsure if that is local enough or still available.
I'm in Newcastle so it's a bit far. As I was going to look at other bikes anyway I may go try some and compare geometrys when I have sat on a couple of compact frames.
Jonb - If you're in Newcastle, it would still be a trek but you can visit their warehouse for a fitting. Probably be worth it if you're in any doubt.
Not that it helps but I'm 6ft, 31" inside leg and I got a large with 110mm stem - seems to fit me about right. I do think it would be a bit jittery with a much shorter stem though.
I'm 5'8 and a medium (which is what I've got) is slightly too big for me really. I have a really short stem on it now and it's ok but not ideal. I reckon medium.
I'm 5'8" and ride a small. Officially I'm an inch over the recomended size, but I know from my own personal experience that apart from a perfect fit frame being available, a small frame with longer stem etc works better. A larger frame 'wound in' doesn't work for me.
