Dropper didn't stay down. Double ring on the front was locked out to big ring. Lock-ons loose. To some they would be a major problem, should I contact the store. Don't want someone to get a bollocking.

Yep, if you expected a PDI then the bollocking is deserved for a sh!t job.

a certain standard of service is to be expected and if not met should be reported back.

I would expect a bike to be safe to ride away in perfect working order.

makes me wonder where else this guy cuts corners for other customers.

Yes, tell them

Nicely

I was handed a road bike with back brake qr open, stem faceplate loose, cranks not tight (rotor, collar adjustment) and few other things!

The first two were dangerous so I dropped them a line, someone else might not have been so lucky! It seemed to be appreciated.

If it was me, I'd want to know.

Though nicely. Occasionally things go wrong, it puzzles me when people go straight in with the "Sale of Goods Act and trading Standards" spiel.

I bought a high end 11 spd road bike from a well known chain retailer in London last Autumn and the PDI was piss poor

front mech didn't work properly (rotated inwards and insufficient tension)
rear mech not indexed
front brake blocks rubbing on tire
rear brake caliper loose on frame
headset loose
front skewer lever in line with fork blade (cannot open)
rear skewer loose causing wheel to slightly move in dropouts
no pedals (despite the "Pdi" sheet indicating they were fitted)

contacted the customer services team, they tried to fob me off, the manager of the store wasn't interested either

first time I have bought a new bike as a "retail customer" in years (I work in the bike trade) and not a good experience. I feel sorry for their customers who don't have an experienced mechanic on hand to put it right

Yes...why wouldn't you? Don't do it in an @rsey way though but they need the feedback to improve.

Wheelies - brake cables not tightened, pulled through on first test ride. gears not indexed, and weirdly bottom of one crank arm ground down by a couple of mm as if someone had ridden along a curb

first time i had ever bought a new bike.
