[#3843567]

After deliberating over possible new bike purchases I've decided to keep my anthem.
But after setting aside a bit of money for new bike purchases I've decided to upgrade my anthem a bit.
The budget is around 600ish + any money recouped from old parts.

I have upgraded the brakes and I have a new set of revelations with adjustable travel that will replace the fox 32s.

After landing hard on the rear mech I think that may be a gonner, so I got an X9 to replace it thats 10speed. So I think I'm going to upgrade to a 2x10 setup, good idea?
It would be nice to make it slightly lighter as I fancy racing it a bit over summer.
I was thinking wheel upgrade to account for maybe 300 of the budget, any suggestions?

Oh and thanks for all the suggestions on the tyres front, had a great time out in the mud today, I will just need to learn to ride on gravel!

Revelations on an Anthem?

Revs don't really make sense on an Anthem - going over 120mm will do odd things to the handling and likely void the warranty too.
You don't say which model or year it is so it's hard to say what would be an upgrade for your bike. My 2009 X1 has been pimped by replacing the RaceFace bits (seatpost, bars, stem) with KCNC parts, and replacing the DT370/XC717 wheels with Hope Pro3/Crests. This has saved quite a bit of weight which you say is one of your goals.

Reba's on an Anthem would make more sense, although I would probably stick with the 32's.

I only got them as they were going very very cheap. They are the 100-130 versions, I fancied having 100-120 to play with to see what the anthem was like with a tiny bit more travel. Nothing more than an experiment really.

Sorry, should have said, its a 2010 x3.

I've got 100-130 revs on my x1. I run them soft enough that the travel is actually 90-120. Works like a dream, great on the descents and when I wind them down, it'll climb a wall.
I'd probably go 2x10 if enough of my drive train needed replacing, but for no reason other than it's newer XT.
Lighter wheels are always good, and I'd put on a dropper post if someone could convince me that the £200 would still be working in a weeks time!

For wheels it would be good to know what you weigh and how hard you ride? I have been riding the new rise 40's on my ninner and they have been great once I worked out how to tubeless them. For day to day riding you can't beat hope's on Stan's if you want a race day special the Stan's pre built wheels are awesome value but with there light weight hubs and spokes not for the heavy or clumsy.

So Anthem X (anthem being a different bike) and original QR rev air-U-turns

lighter?
IIRC 2006-2008 Rev Air U-turn (100-130mm QR) weighed in around 1850g
Your Fox 32s (guessing F100s?) are going to be lighter (not sure waht weight is), RS SIDs (nearer 1400g?) could save a pound or so. On-one had some for £270 or so

£300 for wheels to race on. With an anthem X I assume XC/endurance (not trail/AM enduro or DH racing) stock starting point would be Hope Hoops with Stans Crest rims?
Theres another couple of lighter Stans rims. Dont think Hope do them though

You might find some Specialized Rovales heavily discounted somewhere (the XC/race ones, not the trail/AMish ones). They've DT internalled hubs, DT spokes etc, and seem to get decent reviews. Ought to be lighter than Hope/Stans Crests?

Tyres? Conditions, places/terrain/kind of riding, what wheels/fork setup, tyre size preferences, etc etc?

Cool, thanks for the replies.
A bit more info.

Build wise I'm tall and lanky at around 6'1 and 66kg.
Riding, I can't really say what style I have yet as I'm pretty new to the sport!

Maybe I have made a bit of an error with the revs then, as they come in around 300grams heavier than the F32s. Especially if I plan on racing. Maybe I will try and get some sids or just keep the fox's for racing? I'm in no rush to get rid of them but changing over forks seems a bit of a hassle.
Oh and it'll be XC racing only I think, maybe an enduro in the future.

Cool, thanks James will look at those.

Any thoughts on easton wheels? I have a couple of sets for the road bike and they have been flawless, never gone a mm out of true and built really well.

Hope Hoops will serve you very well - built up (off the shelf easy) and hubs which can be easily switched with simple adapters to any axle type (eg if you change forks about), pick rims according to how xc you want.

Your next question I think is whether you blow the rest of the budget on a adjustable seat post or a few other bits (brakes done already so that's good).
