That course looks well good!

now bring on the olympic motorway

Olympic xc is a slightly different event with different course requirements IMHO. Cos it's so televised and well attended compared to WC xc, it needs more, far shorter (a third to half the length?) laps than WC xc, means wider bits for overtaking.
IIRC the olympic course has drops, rock gardens and a gap jump of sorts, and has claimed a few injuries already.

overtaking on its own isnt very exciting though, much better seeing how the top riders tackle the really tough terrain. there was even overtaking on the rock gardens in the womens race - that was exciting to watch.

why does olympic xc need shorter laps?

Television. No other MTB event has the same level of coverage.

The fields are far smaller too, about 1/3 the size, so you don't need such a long course.

The Olympic XC course is plenty hard enough. People forget its meant for professional riders, not the Gods on here.

i can see how you dont need such a large course for a smaller field, but you cant say theyre doing a bad job at covering this event.

i still think that the olympic course should be technically harder, its certainly not as difficult as this.
