[Closed] Pentlands trail repair dates

Sorry I missed it, was hoping to be more recovered but wasn't to be. Well done folks!

I spoke to the Friends a while back, tbh they seemed to be mostly interested in taking membership fees off people and told me they wouldn't "accept" volunteers who weren't paid up. It's not a lot of money but it didn't seem a good start.

pistachio is the bit in the woods above kinleith farm next to the rocky road. Used to be nice singletrack now a sprawl o multiple lines and muddy pits

Ah, yes. The section between the burn crossing and the road (on the way up) is especially bad. It could certainly be better drained without it necessarily being 'dumbed down'.

The trouble is the trail's in the wrong place really, it runs through 2 natural low points in the woods and is barely above the water level (when the stream ran high last winter it started to flood into the trail bed!) So any drain dug out to the stream risks becoming an inlet. No simple options for this bit as far as I can tell

Guys that looks like excellent work, im really disappointed I missed out. Apart from the August repair dates, are there any other opportunities around Edinburgh for trail maintenance and other related improvements/conservation?
Keen to help!

Keep watching this thread - I aim to make this the start of someting more regular. After the august date we will decide what direction to take in the future with the aim being to have regular dates next year - maybe monthly

I ride in the Pentlands all the time. I'm also a member on the forum over at trailscotland.co.uk, loads of good local banter on that site. There is a lot of Pentlands riders on it as well.

Give me a shout and I will help you guys out.

I'll make sure you guys get to know and get included / involved in discussions. Not expecting to do any work over the winter.

EDIT: Clubbiedean would be good, but was there not issues with working on it last year?

Sounds good, what time?
Remember April 28th is the pedal on parliament event which I'd like to attend.

I tried for a cycle in the pentlands last night with Fraser, but it was seriously waterlogged. He'll be able to give you a better idea of where we went.

We gave up pretty quickly.

Can't make the June date but should be along to lend a hand tomorrow.

Anyone trundling into town to Pedal on Parliament afterwards?

I thought I might, depending on how long we spend doing the repairs. Nice to see the weather improving a little. On Wednesday it really looked scuba kit might be needed.

Schedule for the PoP ride is here.

Leaving at 2ish (if the repairs have gone well) should get us into the Meadows for the 3pm ride to Holyrood with plenty time to spare.

Change of plans, looks like I can make it after all- hopefully will see y'all there.

I've not seen it, if it's been announced, is there a finish time set?

Splendid stuff chaps. Last year we finished up at around 3.30 IIRC - however there is no need for everyone to do the whole day - even an hour is useful.

I'd better get some cake organised ๐Ÿ™‚

As I understand it, west end of Clubbiedean at 10.30- least that's where/when I'm going! If you punch this: 55.88678,-3.284348 into google maps you should get a map.

Disclaimer: Until an hour ago I thought this was happening on sunday, so you are taking directions from a knobber.

Great stuff folks! 11 people turned up which is great. We worked mainly on the east end of clubbiedean clearing drains and digging new ones Hopefully that should help that very muddy stretch but still more work needed.

We also did a bit of repair at wounded knee corner as it has nearly eroded away . However longer term a better solution is required for this - propsed to build a new bridge something like this maybe but leave the old bit there for those who want it until it collpses completely which will not be long. we did repair and widen it a bit
