Not every day you see someone riding one. In fact, not at all before in my life do I think I've actually seen one being ridden... But today, on the A449 just outside of Worcester, just after 1pm, I saw a guy I'm guessing in his 20's, fully lycra'd up, on an enormous beast of a Penny Farthing, pedalling like billy oh and rattling along at some pace, on the damned thing!

Respect... In an odd sort of way... ๐Ÿ˜•

Anyone else see him?

No, but I saw a 36er Unicycle been riding fast out of Warrington towards Liverpool on the main road a couple of months ago.

If you the rider of this awesome machine and are reading this, please can I have a shot on it?

A 36er Unicycle eh! Nice...

This "Penny Farthing" was bloody huge. Still looked in proportion, but I swear proper penny farthings were smaller. In fact, I just googled it, and they generally had wheels up to 1.5m in diameter. I'd swear this one was 2m or more, he was sat up in the stratosphere!

Respect to him...I think. They look so unsafe IMO, must be a killer on even the smallest of hills.

I used to love watching the penny farthing national champs when I was a young teen. They used to race around Market Harborough as one of the days crit races in the town centre before it was filled with speed bumps. Great fun. Can't recall more than 5 bikes in any race though!

I have seen the guy in Worcester - a few years back when I was doing Jury Service there. He stoped at some traffic lights and used the actual light bit (at the top) as a handy leaning point!

Would quite likely have been Steve Colligan - he's a very fast rider and lives somewhere round there. He is quite an energetic guy, check out this ride he did a few years back: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/steve.colligan/about_steve_colligan.html
