[Closed] Pedals for the road

SPD-SL. Does the job, minimal fuss, you can get 3 degree float cleats, which I find fine and I'm a bandy legged troll with wonky feet.

depends if you are using proper flat soled road shoes or not.

I use crank bros acid (400 grams) on my winter bike/tourer and Time Impact ti/mag (117 grams) on my posh bike

the acids allow me to use more casual style shoes for touring but still provide the extra support

the Times give the stable platform and great power transfer/comfort that a larger contact area provides. You can only use them with road shoes though

I don't like Looks - purely because they always settle upside down & you have to flip them over as you set off from junctions

Keos are lovely.

mrsmw has Keo Carbons and loves them. She found it impossible to get in and out of the Time Impacts so I inherited them 🙂

Speedos--more expensive but double sided so you don't have the slip off the wrong side incident which leads to rattling nads on crossbar and teeth on bars.

I use eggbeaters because I've no interest in swapping cleats or having several pairs of shoes for different bikes and I don't engage in any "serious" road biking, just enough for training.

Only one road pedal to use....Time

The cleats last ages, they have proper float, they look good, what more do you want ?

Do you have road specific shoes or mtb shoes?

I use ultegra SPD-SLs and they have been flawless, cleats dont fit mtb shoes though.

Look - if you like spending money on new cleats every 6 months
Shimano - if your bike has Shimano on it
Time - if you want a bit more float

I have road and mtb shoes but want a road specific pedal as it's for a summer/race bike. I'll check out time and look as the ultegra pedals (to match the group) seem expensive when you look at other brands. Still hae my eye on some Ti axled Xpedo (look cleats) from taiwan for aout £60
