[#6172265]

I went to my LBS the other day with Speedplay Zero pedals which were seizing up. I asked about getting them serviced and my mechanic said he hadn't serviced a pair of pedals in about 10 years which were XTR ones. He is a good mechanic mind and I've been using him for years.

It seems crazy to me to just throw them out when they seem a bit worn, is that the usual way with pedals these days? Am I living in the dark ages trying to get mine serviced? ๐Ÿ˜•

Serviced my stable of shimano pedals the other day. Can't tall any difference. Should have just stayed in the pub.

Maybe it just goes into the "service yourself" or "use til dead" camps? I service mine, but then 2 of mine are terrible pieces of crap that need regular services to stop them going on fire

Life's too short. I use disposable M520's. I tend to smash them up on a rock before they stop turning smoothly.

And I "service", I'm kinda more referring to waiting till the point that they need new bearings etc, as opposed to a regular grease ๐Ÿ˜† .

Shimano pedals are dead easy to maintain. Take out the axle assembly, tighten cones, fill body with grease and screw axle back in.

Well I use flats, Vault pedals and all they need is pull off the axle, clean and grease, refit. Eventually bushing will go so that needs doing, maybe the bearing at other end but that seems to last forever. They're too expensive and too nice to chuck away.

Getting them serviced? I used to service my Crank Brothers pedals, might service the M520's if they get gritty but pay someone to do it? Aren't the speedplay ones just an "open them up, swap the bearings, close them back up" job?

(which was exactly the case with the Crank Brothers ones... ish)

I think my first upgrade on my 1998 M2 Stumpjupmer was a pair of 959s SPDs, maybe a couple of years after I got the bike - so 2000? After a review in Singletrack I think!

Never touched them since.. 14 years and going fine.

The bearings in one of my favourite flats have collapsed, so I'm going to have to service them - just as soon as I figure out how to get the damn things apart...

i've got a pair of Wellgo B25 flats that i've had for more than 10 years and a pair of Shimano DX M646's which are nearly 10 years old....neither of them have ever been serviced or are likely to be....still spinning smoothly with no play....i guess i'll run them till they're dead...

Just serviced my NukeProof Neutron flats this week - could not believe how much grit got inside in less then a year!
Now cleaned and greased and all looks good ๐Ÿ™‚

I'd have to change the axil now too though as left it too long without a service. I think new ones it is then!

What's this "service" you're talking about?

I have Times. They'll be running smoothly after the apocalypse.

Which ones you using? I run them on all my mtbs. I usually get about two years out of them, I'm bad at servicing them mind.
