Anyone tackling the Pedal For Scotland on Sunday ?

Really, really want to give it a go. But couple of issues.
Firstly, I Don't have a HT, so thinking of putting slicks on my Full Sus and locking out the forks.

Also - gonna sit down and work alternatives for end to end transport. Rather than have someone scratch my bike to bits on a truck !
Train will likely be packed with like-minded folks.
Any starters for 10 ?

nope. entered last year but pulled out as i wasn't feeling well and needed to get better for my sportive the weekend after it. my team went though - we'd planned to train it over, but decided against it - although iirc, scotrail will let on more bikes on the day. my other half did it last year, he said it was very very busy/slow going, which is putting my off doing it.

Hmmmm,

Manager at my LBS said last year he put slicks on his full susser and got a lot of 'tutts' from the roadies as he flew by on the rougher sections.

Did wonder about the bottle necks as it ain't very wide in sections.

Yep, a load of us from work doing it, plus quite a few from the club (GMBC).

forecast looks ideal so should be a great day out -)

The Bike Chain will be providing support at Kirkliston. Don't worry about what bike you're riding, there's all sorts of bikes and riders taking part and no one will laugh.

Forget the slicks and the lock out...it is a serious event to raise money for a good cause, but it isn't a serious event where fun needs to be left at home...just ride whichever bike you have available to you - if it happens to be a 6" full bounce monster then so be it...don't let full bounce stop you from giving it a bash!

I'd love to do it but can't as this weekend I'm being left alone with my 14-month old daughter to look after...and I've been told I'm visiting the grandparents on Sunday to ensure she has/is being looked after!

A crowd of us did it last year and it was great fun. As said above, it's not a race, just a good fun day. If the weather is as good as last year, and it looks like it will be, then is should be great.

Second the comments about bikes - sure you will have some lycra clad carbon mounted racers looking for the sub 2hr times, but a much greater number of casual and family riders aiming for 5 or 6hrs, with a few food stops and a fun day out.

Can't comment much on the transport options as lifts arranged back from Edinburgh, as per last yr...

I have ridden it the last 4 years and there are a massive variety of bikes and abilities. Its not a race so take your time, enjoy it and take advantage of the free cake!

Why not ride home if it isnt too far?

Made the decision today to pull out.
Riding buddies all pulled out for genuine reasons, and don't fancy doing on my own.
Will possibly attempt it some other day when mates can make it.

I knew nothing about this ๐Ÿ™
I'm working this weekend but would have liked to have done it.
Although, my wife has just informed me that 'It's been on our milk for a while.' Well, that'll teach me for not reading my milk!

Just been taking a look at the route, and i thought it would be on the canal paths. But it seems to be mostly on roads. And some of them pretty serious ones at that ?

...It's all on pretty quiet roads, nothing off road apart from a few sections though Drumpellier etc, which are still on hard surfaces. They have closed the route to vehicle traffic out of Glasgow and I think also a wee bit at the other end. There are 7000 riders, so it's been well thought out.

i'm doing it.... yah!! but working later that day ( boo). Starting in Edinburgh so bike it over to Glasgow first thing and then do the event. Its actually quite a good day out on the bike, a nice course and last years weather was near to pefect. Its also mainly a tailwind for most of the course and you'll never be alone on any part of the course.
Quite excited really although not about the work later bit ๐Ÿ˜ฅ

that was brill -) . perfect weather, well organised, loads of marshalls,(well apart from a couple of bits on the way into Edinburgh) great foodstops, and a good laugh at the finish. We hung around to watch Danny Macaskill doing some stuff, which was pretty goood too.

Will be back next year - a great event !
