Does that rather clever front guard that clamps to your bars only fit triple lamp bikes, or is it small enough to allow mere mortals that have single crown forks to use it as well?

It'll work with either. It fits on to your bars

the stack height of head tube, headset and lower crown on most dual crown forks/DH frames is actually less than most single crown forks/XC frames so clearance should be fine.
asthetically it'll look shite tho.
