I'm preparing a new patio. How deep will I need to go to ensure a solid base? Will six-feet be sufficient?

At six feet it may as well be.

6 feet?? Are you building a tower block? 100mm of MOT1 should be plenty if whackered down properly.

6ft is recommended to reduce likelihood of repurcussions, bear in mind organic matter will shrink as it rots
