[#10396510]

Evening All,

So in a stroke of luck I won the Hope handlebars in the Christmas countdown on here. I’ve literally never won anything before and I was genuinely chuffed and pleasantly surprised. The Bars arrived a couple of days ago and they are lovely.

The problem is that I have very little in the way of disposable income and the brakes on my bike are a bit shit. I have a Spank vibrocore bar on the bike at the moment and it’s great. Do I keep the pretty Hope bar that I’ve won (I think I should as it seems rude not to) or sell it and put the money towards some new brakes?

Basically, what would you do? Told you it was pathetic.

Auction it as for sale and donate the money into the Jenn fund. Win win.

Ask the nice people at Hope if they would consider an exchange ?

I suspect even Mikes ability to post on every stw thread ever has not quite matured to posting in advance of the op as yet...

If you need the money for new brakes, sell it. It's your prize, you can do whatever you want with it. Don't let the holier than thou brigade tell you otherwise...

Oh and congratulations 🙂

You have good bars already, but bad brakes.

I agree, sell the bars and get some brakes.

In your shoes I'd sell them on (to me for 20p obviously) they are yours now and therefore yours to do with as you see fit. It's not necessarily the normal thing but if you've got other priorities why not.

You've indirectly won some brakes and someone gets a lovely new bar at a bit of a discount. Win win.

You won a thing. All you really want to do is exchange it for another thing. Why not? Doesn't harm anyone.

Don't feel guilty, you won something, something you don't need. The handlebars are yours now, no matter how you came by them. Flog them slightly cheaper than new, someone gets a cheap pair of brand new handlebars that they need, and you get your new brakes.

I don't think it's a problem to sell them on and fund your brakes.
The Hope bars are very nice, but i also own a set of vibrocores and really rate them. The gains are greater with the brakes than upgrading your bars in this case

Take the bars with you riding and shove them in your spokes when stopping is required. Two birds, one stone.
