Park workstand 10.2 parts no longer available

[#12958397]

So I have a park tool 10.2 workstand. It wasn’t the cheapest but also wasn’t the most expensive thing out when I bought it.

It is sturdy although it would have been nice if the main upright would turn rather than being u shaped.

I’ve somehow mangled the lower qr that holds the main upright vertical - I think because it always needed to be VFT to stop the stand collapsing forward with heavy bikes in it.

I’ve found the part number but can’t find it for sale in the uk at all - tried Amazon / eBay and several bike shops. SJS looked into it for me and said the uk distro no longer holds / supplies the part 🤦‍♂️

Nothing else wrong with the stand at all so I’d like to fix it - anyone else had this issue? I guess a straight forward bolt would do the job - preferably with a twist knob on the ends of it. A normal bike qr is probably way too long and I’m not sure a seat post clamp would do it.

It’s either that or I maybe able to get the part from Park US but it’s $17 and then a minimum of $20 postage plus any vat or import duty. A lot for a simple qr really.

Any ideas?

Howxabout a bit of threaded rod and some nuts. It becomes a slow release but still functional

I also found qr levers that would fit threaded rod but no idea where I got them from

@jamiemcf - not ideal but that’s my backup plan. Can’t quite believe they’ve discontinued the part. Wonder what the 10.3 new version uses 🤔

Don’t Park have a lifetime warranty? Have you emailed Truman?

Have you checked European shops? Sounds like UK has no stock but there are other countries that may sell (and ship at a price)...

@oceanskipper - I didn’t know they had a lifetime warranty. Depends if that’s over everything or just manufacturing defects. If so I think they could say this is wear and tear rather than a defect

My vote would be a bolt with a couple of wing nuts and washers so less risk of over tightening.

Looks like they changed the lower supports to be tightened via a turn knob, the upper one has also been changed to add tool holders. Not convinced it make it more robust or if the extra features add a lot of value.

I've  used Shimano wheel QR's on seatclamps in the past, just trimmed them to a suitable length, and run an M5 die onto them. Can't see why it wouldn't work on  a workstand.

Wing nuts could work actually. The 10.3 has a plastic turn nut thing rather than a qr.

Is it easy to cut a thread into a rod like a qr? I’ve got a tap sets for internal threads to a hole but not a set for the other way round.

@hatter - it’s 2851. In the below diagram it’s number 20.

Just used a HSS M5 die to cut the thread, didn't have any problems doing it.

I needed a part for my Park stand (can't remember the model), contacted Park directly and they shipped it over to Scotlandshire foc.

Interesting that Park shipped you a part for free. I’ll drop them an email and see what they say. Cheers!

Yeah. If you've got a thread to start with but just need to cut it further along the length it's easy because the existing thread will get you straight. There are usually three screws that hold a die in it's holder. Use the centre one alone to start, cut down to your desired finish point, them back out and undo the center one, tighten the outer two, and go back down. Slow and steady wins the race, just take nibbles out, 1/4 or 1/8 turn and back off to clear swarf. Use oil and a stiff brush to help clear the crap out.

Hopefully park will see you right though. 🙂

Update - Park have come through for me - fair play.

They’re going to send me a new qr and also a revised ‘safety collar’ that later versions of the stand had to stop them collapsing forward / relying just on the qr.

Assuming the bits arrive that’s amazing customer service and I will continue to buy Park tools stuff on that basis.

Pleased you’re sorted. My experience with ParkTools through their distributor, Madison, has always been excellent. Like you I needed workstand spares but for a PSR25 that had been used for ten years professionally. They arrived in the post, no charge, even though I was prepared to pay as they’d had a tough life! Excellent service.

They did the same for me, shipped me a new "safety collar" and a new QR lever and nut when i asked them about a replacement.

The safety collar is great as i found the stand could slip down under some uses like tightening crank bolt to 50nm etc, so was pretty chuffed with that.

Can't fault the service.

Yeah I think on it’s own the qr perhaps isn’t upto the job - hence them introducing the safety collar as well. That said I’ve never tried to do the 40-50nm of torque that the cranks I’ve got need when I’m the stand. Usually do those with the bike on the floor.
