I'm heading out from Ebbsfleet to Paris to visit some family for a day trip on Eurostar between Xmas and New Year.
Tickets have been booked for a few months as they were dirt cheap at £35 return.
I'm thinking of riding home to Surrey and sacking off the return journey as I quite fancy a longish ride. I would prefer to ride to Paris and take my already booked return train back to UK, but think that if I fail to turn up for the outbound leg of my journey then my return ticket would likely be cancelled.
1. Anybody have any experience of missing their return (or outbound) leg on Eurostar? I'm sure it is against their T&C, but am I likely to be 'blacklisted' out some such nonsense?
I take Eurostar fairly regularly so could do without any future fuss. But, I suppose that it is quite possible that many people miss their return train every day and make alternative arrangements without too much bother.
2. Does anybody have a decent. Gpx route from Paris to Dieppe? Quiet roads, easy to navigate solo and possibly in the dark. Ideally I would leave Paris early morning and take the evening ferry back to Newhaven. Is this feasible in a day on a lightly panniered cross bike on which I usually average about 15-16mph? Looks to be about 100 miles or so. The ferry is at 1730 so might be a bit of a rush.
The ferry gets in to Newhaven at about 2100 so will be a late night if continuing up to Surrey once docked.
This is all just a rough plan at the moment and will of course be weather dependent.
Thanks
The Avenue Vert is basically this route... but as it's green lane and gravel tracks, it's not a direct route.
Maybe 160 miles ish..

Let me know if it is any good - I'm riding London to Paris via this route the week before Easter.
The route at the link looks perfect, thanks freeagent.
The record for Dieppe to Paris looks to be 7hr37, I reckon a 0430 start from the outskirts of Paris should see me at the coast in time for the ferry.
We did the Avenue Verte route in May, riding both directions.
Our trip went like this...
Crawley to Newhaven for an overnight stop with one of the group - 35 miles
Early ferry from Newhaven, arriving in Dieppe at 14:00
Ride to Gournay-en-bray for the next overnight - 53 miles
Ride to Maisons Laffite on outskirts of Paris for next overnight - 70 miles
Ride into Paris for lunch and a look-around, then return to ML - 40-ish miles
Retrace route back home, doing the last leg in France and the UK leg without an overnight stop. (Getting home at stupid-o'clock, due to an hour delay, getting off the ferry)
About 380-ish miles of resurfaced railway tracks, quiet country roads, a few bridleways, some towpaths and (of course) the cobbles of the Champs Elysée
Highly recommended
(But you'd have to be motoring to do it in a day, and catch the ferry)
I rode the Hirsch route Paris-Dieppe in a day on the way back from Torino-Nice. There are not many food stops directly en route, the McD's at Gournay-en-Bray was a life saver.
Paris end lovely through the forests, Dieppe end nice paved ave verte, bit in the middle can be exposed to wind.
Also, for a there and back, the Indigo Blue campsite in Paris is pretty good and right on the route in the Bois de Boulogne.
Thanks BelugaBob.
If I do this then will be staying with family just over the bridge from Maisons-Laffitte.
Looking at the link further up the thread I should be able to get the route down to about 100 miles as the linked route cuts out a few circuitous bits.
Could probably get collected from Newhaven to save the night ride back to Surrey.
Looks like no bikes allowed on the train if boarding in Ebbsfleet, so would have to take leave a bike over there when I drive over the week before. If the weather looks foul (which I won't know until a few days before the planned ride) then I would cancel and have to leave a bike over there for a few months. I use the bike for commuting so don't really want to be without it.
It might be a bit too much effort, risk and organisation to squeeze this in this year.
Ferry w/bike is only £35 return so would make a great weekend trip when it's warmer, with more daylight.
Just in case anybody wants to do a similar trip...

@peekay - I'd say leave it until better weather, and enjoy it at a more relaxed pace.
