Has anyone mentioned Ortlieb?
They won't last forever, in my experience, but they are pretty tough. With years of daily commuting you will eventually get some wear on the edges, but you can always patch small holes. They are fully waterproof, no question about that.
I'd always go for panniers; better to have the weight lower down rather than hanging in a big saddlebag, and you can overstuff panniers easily if you need to go to the shops on the way home.
I shall visit a few places and try some stuff out thanks for all the suggestions.
Perhaps we should explain the business of accuracy in waterproofing terminology to the company who made my waterproof jacket which isn't, in fact, waterproof despite being well advertised as such.
Unless the jacket dissolved then its perfectly waterproof. 🙂
Yes the Downtown looks fine off the bike. But go for black as it has a little more class. I will next time. The tubes micro rack has fixed lugs and there is nowhere near enough heel clearance at any other angle on my bike with short chain stays. The traditional rack on my trike mounts he bag horizontally as expected.
Leaving nothing on the pannier makes the Downtown a good all rounder. It's only fault is that when pretty full, it has to be fastened on a tall setting ans doesn't hang vertically.
