[#3154826]

Doing a 9 day cycling trip to Amsterdam soon, was wondering what racks/bags people recommend (preferably cheap ones) and whether or not i can get away with rear panniers and a small ruck sack.

I will be carrying part of a tent and a compact sleeping bag as well.

Thanks

Had one of these:

on my commuter a few years now, seems to be taking a beating and pretty cheap.

tubus rack and altura dryline bags here, plenty waterproof enough.

If you pack light, you'll manage with rear panniers, tent on top of rack, sleeping bag in a dry bag (try alpkit) attached to handlebars and do without rucksack on your back. It depends if you're cooking or not and taking supplies with you whether you'll need more space.

Tubus racks are the best at a cost.

I like my carridice carradry panniers - waterproof and robust. fixings are a bit of a fiddle ut huge bags - biggar than ortleib.

If you can't get it all in two panniers you have too much stuff

As the man above says if you can't get it in 2 paniers it's too much stuff unless you're doing a massive trip and carrying stuff for other activities.

All our stuff for 4 weeks tour (camping) fitted in 2 ortlieb panniers each with the tent on the top of mine plus a bar bag for bits and bobs you need handy.

Blackburn rack here, it's been very good.

The welded platisiced Edinbugh Bike Coop panniers are brilliant for the money.
Daughter has used them for years without any problems.

Try really hard not to have a rucksack. Much nicer ride not having weight on shoulders/neck or the dreaded sweat back!

+1 for Tubus and Altura dryline. Forget the back pack - defeats whole object of rack/panniers
