It sounds bonkers but bear with me - my company offers a rack-mountable laptop bag for free, to encourage cycling (Carradice Bike Bureau). What I would like to do ideally is put the laptop back on a front rack and fill two panniers on the rear (yes I know I could take less stuff blabla, I currently have the computer in back.. this is for a week away incidentally).
However there's two problems with this. The bag may not fit on a front rack, I don't know if the clips are adjustable enough, but even if it does it'd be a fair old weight on one side.
So, does anyone make some kind of adapter allowing me to clip something like a pannier to the bars? A sort of bar mounted rack? It's a bit bizarre, I know.. I could just as well get a basket...
You might be better with a basket and bodge it with saw and some bungees to convert it into a pannier holder. ๐
The better baskets do have pretty hefty fittings so should be fine for carrying a laptop, especially if you've sawn the front 2/3 of the basket away!
Edit, ah thought I remember these - pretty strong tubular one for carrying beer. Takeout Handlebar rack. Possibly too nice to saw up though!
Found this, anyone used it?
