I've got a bike box from the lbs, but what should I remove before shipping a bike?

I was thinking remove pedals, wheels, discs, seatpost, and loosen handlebars

anything else I should do?

Remove bars from stem. Loosen shifter and brake levers to allow free rotation. Also remove rear mech and chain. And everything you said above. And use plenty of padding, anything you have, cardboard, old plastic bags, bubble wrap.

Handlebars off, saddle and seatpost, pedals too. rear wheel stays on the bike, take off the front wheel or the bike won't fit in the box. Wheel on non-drive side, leave the derailleur on, bubble wrap it.

That's how they come from the far east.

Fork spacer/protector. If you can use pipe lagging on the frame etc better than bubble wrap/cardboard. I would take the rear mech off (but only based on the advice of my LBS)

Jools

Below is a very good guide (admittedly for a bike box within a bike bag).
