[#3366263]

Evening gang.
Got the opportunity to buy either of these frames second hand.
just want it for the usual stuff.
Nothing over the top.
I know the pace is prone to cracking around the seat tube but i,m a light rider.
I,m torn between the two so could do with a bit of expert knowledge 😉
Cheers guys...

I've got an MmmBop but no experience of the Pace, so in true STW style I'll say the Ragley is better 😀

However, I will say that the Ragley is all lot of fun to ride though some say a bit harsh for long XC rides, but it's not bothered me. I'm actually on the verge of selling my beloved Trek Fuel EX as it doesn't get a look in anymore.

- Loads of mud clearance
- 1.5" headtube so you can run any size steerer fork
- Nice and slack for descending but still a decent climber
- Can build it up tough for playing/DH (as mine was), or reasonably light for more XC stuff (as mine is at the moment)

I'm a Pace fan.......they are nicely balanced and fun....so I'd go for that. BUT I'd give the frame a very good visual check over and measure the dropout distances and try and beg an alignment tool to measure that aswell. If tyres bigger than 2.1 are a must then forget the Pace.

Not ridden an Mbop.... but I imagine that they will be long and too high at the back, too low at the front....that is authoritively said from complete ignorance...really useful stuff

An mmmbop here. Really enjoying it built up as a trail bike (revs, 1x10, lightish wheels.)

It is quite stiff but that just makes it feel very responsive when pedalling or pumping. I find i really need to put the effort in and work at weighting and un-weighting the bike over rocky stuff and roots. It's harsh when I get it wrong but very rewarding when i get it right. It's definitely not a bike for a leisurely cruise!

Rode it around the w2 at Afan last weekend. Was brilliant fun, but I wouldn't want to ride it much further than that over that sort of terrain.

Can't comment on the Pace.

Love my Mmmbop, suspect with my reputation I would destroy a Pace...
Mmmbop is ugly, top tube is too high, it looks like an xc bike... But by heck it rides well.

Fashion or function?

My criticism of the Bop was that the stiff rear end liked to bash off things in a pretty uncontrolled way- suppose coming from a Soul meant I was used to a rear with a bit of controlled give. But it did everything else right, really. Wish I could've kept it and built it up heavy but something had to go.

Yes second the high top tube, occasionally gets in the way. Found the back end was very lively when I first got it, especially coming off a FS bike, but seem to have adapted to it and don't really notice it too much now.

Edit: and the paint on my green one is a bit rubbish, very thin and easy to show wear if you ride in gritty conditions.

Double edit: also I may be slightly deluded but I reckon my mmmbop in it's current build actually looks pretty good!

Cheers guys.
Bought the pace in the end for a very good price.
Went to pick it up of a guy in Lancashire who had about £30k,s worth of bikes in his very very secure shed.
I did drool. 😉
Very cool guy and very genuine.
The frame is almost new with no signs of any cracking in the suspect areas.
I,m just in the process of the build.
150 BB revs and pro2 717,s bought of here.
Just after the finishing kit now so feel free to help me out over in the wanted,s. 😀
Will post up when built.
Just hope i doesn't crack on me but i,ll take that chance and see how it goes.
