[#3943874]

Back in the day, I had a pair of RC35's on my Cannondale M500 - I think they had about 2mm of travel, but all the same they were the business.

Back in the saddle now and securing myself a nice but old bike, I'd like to buy some more pace forks to replace the 7 year old SIDs on there, but I really don't know whether pace forks are any good now? I've got a budget of £200 for s/ obvioulsly, and will be used for light xc and will be complimenting a brain shock at rear (if that makes any difference?)

Any thoughts? I don't want to buy fox simply because they're everywhere...possibly brilliant, I don't know, but want something different.

Thanks, Rich

I wouldn't bother - most Pace will be getting on now as they sold out to DT Swiss a few years ago. They were still OK forks but, having had some RC40s I didn't think they made any really good forks after the RC36 and RC38 Hollowforms.

For that budget I'd get some SH Rickshox or Maguras, or Fox. Some Durins for sale over on classifieds at the moment.

Huh, shame - they were beautifully engineered.

Spotted the durins funnily enough, but seems there's a recall still on them - which is worrying.

Thanks for advice (maybe I'll just get the sids serviced...)

For what it's worth I've just sold my RC38s and bought some SIDs. I wouldn't say there is an immense difference but the Sids feel more robust if slightly less plush and more difficult to set up.

If the recall work has been done on them though they will be fine...I have a set of 2000 RC36 EVO IIIs needing to be sent back for a service then I'll get them back on the RC-200...not got round to doing it as the Pace just sits in the garage being admired...

my rc36 pc2 are tired and need a service.

my rc40 xcam are sweet and match my LRS (related to your epic) a treat.

my rc41f are like butter over the trails.

fork english service pace forks, the last incarnations of which are not much different to the dt swiss stuff.

there are friday afternoon examples though.

Having worked in a Pace status one bike shop, about 90% of their forks were Friday afternoon specials!

Thanks for all replies - worryingly there isnt enough negative to put me off - I just love the way they look and was wondering if they were hopeless now...seems they're hit and miss?

Sid WC need a £100 service and for that on what I think is clumsy looking fork, I'm still tempted by the RC38, for same travel & less weight...

However, it could be a case of 'a fool and their money'....

My RC40 fighters are great, and going strong after nearly five years. 140mm travel. Fork English service is spot on too.

My rc40s were great, had them about 5 years, serviced twice and still worked perfectly when I sold them.
Light, stiff, and we're great on my old enduro.
If you can get s good pair I'd recommend them.

Thanks crip & alth - Pace RC40's look gert lush, but too much travel for me as I'm assuming they come with a weight penalty for all that travel? Too much for a wussy rider as myself who'd struggle to use 100mm!

I'm still sad about the demise of Pace....and merlin ti..and purple...

..I mean, how hot is this for engineering & design? Insane (unjustified IMO) price, but god they'd go well with my red theme!

I had some RC40s a few years back. They really weren't bad forks when they worked properly, but they did go back to Pace three times before the travel adjust worked properly. The damping was excellent - better than the Rockshox Pikes I replaced them with, but I had no confidence in the Paces at all. Sold them within a year and lost £240.
