Well ache more.
On the road I get it after about three hours in, and only when I use the small ring i.e when I need it coz I'm getting tired.
It feels like a dead leg, like someones punched me. If I ignore it, it travels to my lower back.
If I stand it goes and if I use the big ring it goes?
I've been riding for years without any aches or pains, but this has now become consistent with every ride. Obviously being confined to the big ring isn't ideal.
Any idea what's happening.

Sounds a bit like illiotibial band problems. I had this a lot when I taught spinning classes. Also manifests itself in knee and arse/hip pain. A good stretching regime helped mine. Its best to get checked out by a Physio to get to the root of the problem.
