Came off the road bike at the weekend (gravel at the bottom of a steep hill and a double blow-out). Smashed my helmet up badly and broke my collarbone. I've no desire to engage in a(nother) helmet debate but I'm bloomin' glad I had mine on.

Heal up quickly, but why were you not wearing body armour too? ๐Ÿ˜‰

i'd give it a 1/10 except for the mention of gravel and blow-outs which add some interesting detail to the tiresome "i fell off my bike and smashed my helmet" anecdotes, so 2/10.

it was a bit devoid of excitement HH, you're right. Do i get another point for the fact my wedding ring had started de-gloving my finger?

Alternatively slower speed/better tyres to avoid the blowouts, steer round the gravel and avoid the crash.

Risk compensation?

Ouch! I nearly fell off last night, just started to rain + greasy roads + worn Ultremos = double wheel slide on a junction. Paaarp! ๐Ÿ™‚

not sure. Maybe the crash caused the blowouts rather than the other way round. It was all a bit quick and a bit unexpected and i'm still not quite sure what went wrong. I'm confident there would have been a lot of blood on the road if I was sans-helmet though.

I've not crashed for a while.

What a waste of helmet-wearing!

Love this story.
Not evidence but hilarious. Darwinism at work.
