Can somebody please tell me what size bottom bracket I should have brought for this bike. The numbers on the old one are not visible and the new one I have just tried to fit hjolds the cranks too far ut to get a chain line.

The shell size of 73mm is correct but I think 126mm is too wide. What should it be?

73mm shell, axle width depends on your chainset, i've got square taper RS7s and run a 113mm, same for old XT sqare taper too for what it's worth.

unfortunately I have just leant the bike to a friend and was in a hurry so did not measure the BB before I refitted it. I could not get onto the large chain ring so I think 113 would be about right
