any inside info on when they are available?
any good reason (not including an irrational dislike of oranges) not to get one?
and yes I do have an audi.
and no I don't work in IT.
Over priced.
Under specced.
Odd geometry.
Bike radar tweeted 1st may prices at £1099, looks a great piece of kit

Tiagra/105 Mix and BB5s with Easton Finishing kit is hardly far out for the money. Slack cross bikes are hardly new anymore and there's clearly demand for them…
i tend to ignore most responses from taylforth. I think its actually a forum autoresponse bot.

It's not as outrageously over priced as most Oranges, but there are better value alternatives out there:
Pinnacle Arkose 3-

Rear brake in the right place.
Carbon forks.
BB7's.
Two sets of eyelets on the stays for rack & guards.
£100 cheaper.
What's not to like?
Unless you're a bit of snob, of course..... 😀
It's on the Orange website now at £1100 so seems about right, and components look on a par with other similarly priced bikes (I'm looking specifically at the CdF).
Geometry does look a bit slacker than the CdF for example, no idea if this is good or bad. I'd imagine Orange are coming at this from a MTBer point of view so slacker = better. Interesting though that looking at a 52cm RX9 and a 52cm CdF, the RX9 is longer in most areas (TT, chainstay) where the CdF seems to make this up in stem length.
I'd have expected the Orange to be shorter (and therefore more nimble).
Is it actually a specific-to-Orange design or is it like the Carbo, where it was just a catalogue frame with one of those very expensive Orange stickers on it?
Its not (I believe) designed as a race CX bike, more a having a laugh CX bike, hence the slacker angles etc in a very Cotic X-esque fashion.

Hence the "It's not far out". You can find better but you can find worse.
Is this it ?
Inspired by a rather famous video
Cotic X-esque fashion
Also know as jumping on the bandwagon.
What's wrong with the rear brake calliper location?
I really do fancy a CX bike..
I was wondering the same thing. Presumably it's because it gets in the way of most racks. What's wrong with the rear brake calliper location?
Does the RX9 have rack mounts *and* mudguard mounts?

Hang on a second, the X is great but the Croix de Fer was around a long time before it doing the same thing very well. There may have been others.
The video was quite similar in vain though…

True, all I'm saying is CX/RX/fun-CX is quite cool/fashionable now.
Personally I'd like a Colnago world cup 2.0.
Looks very nice to me, £1099 seems OK if you compare it to a Kona Jake for example - a lot better value than most Orange bikes. I want one but on the website it looks like the smallest they are doing is 52cm which is probably a couple of cm to big for me.
This place is great 😆
When Orange don't change their frames every year for the latest rad design (that then is said to be out of date 12 months later) STW is full of people saying they live in the past, are dinosaurs, etc.
When they bring out a bike that's not a single pivot full suss they're 'jumping on the band wagon'. I bet if they do a steel hard tail for 2014 they'll be classed as 'jumping on the band wagon' or copying Cotic etc regardless of the fact that 2013 was the first time since 1988 they had no steel in the line up.
Then someone will come along and state as fact that Orange bikes are so hugely overpriced that you would have to be an idiot, or Audi driver to buy one. This will then be proved to be incorrect at which point one of the haters will trawl the internet until they find a bike that sort of proves them correct, ignoring all the other comparable bikes around the same price.
This will then be repeated every couple of days and all the haters will feel very pleased with themselves. The Orange riders will just continue to enjoy their bikes though, even if they don't have an Audi or work in IT. 😆
Oh, and I quite like the look of this cross bike. Think I'll be sticking any money I can find in the sofa on a new MTB this year though.
I'd have expected the Orange to be shorter (and therefore more nimble).
Length is based on what size you buy, they dont list actual seat-tube length so we have no idea where it is measured to. If you want more flickable buy a size down.
Personally having ridden rigid alloy forks last cx season, id buy anything other than the orange. Dont think my hands could take it again, especially if you want to ride it 'for fun'.

I don't get this, how is a bike company making a bike "jumping on the bandwagon"
Fair enough if they start making a one D version, but it's just a bike!
Hmm,
I am VERY keen to add an 'X' to my soul, but then i think maybe just a Solaris with 2 sets of wheels!
Any thougths????
Sniff.
Alloy forks? On a £1100 bike?! Decent carbon ones and it'd be a winner in my eyes.
Just seen that the first batch are on the way to the dealers so available anytime.
are there any in the orange demo fleet?
Have just test ridden one vs the specialized tricross
Thought it looked great and rode well...
...until I tried the tricross which looked tish but rode better..??!!
Fiddled with setup but RX9 was way more 'twitchy'. And I really liked it but...
...don't know what to do now.
Cheers
Had a quick spin round the car park on one today, going back to have a look again tomorrow.
had a longer ride on one yesterday. didnt feel twitchy at all but then i'd just done 30m on the road bike.
question is do i wait until i've sold my road bike or just buy it now...
