So is it suitable for cross country riding, the frame alone with xc parts? Is it far too heavy etc, advice much appreciated.
The 16 inch is alright for XC, 14 inch is a bit too small. Theyre not heavy really, my 14 inch frame weighs 5.5 pounds or so.

is that the steel or aluminium version, thanks.
depends how tall you are perhaps? I am 5ft 4 and I use a 14" msisle (with pikes) for all my riding. It is quite a heavy xc bike but I haven't had anything else to compare it with. It's a tatty bike but very pretty if that helps ๐
Errrrrrr, msisle's were/are only made in aluminium.
and yeah, defo depends how tall you are!! ๐

mine is def aluminium... it's also probably not the bike for long long excursions but I'm sure you've figured that out already ๐
Might be a bit weighty, but I'm sure it'd be fine.
The 16 inch would be best for you as an XC bike.
Thats a mistake on the website then! Msisles are only aluminium.
