Anyone still riding one? I have had mine 4 years and it's been my one bike for everything perfectly happily.
But I wondered whether I could make it a bit more contemporary. Anyone changed the head angle? If so how did that work? Or shortened the stem?
Any thoughts welcome. thanks
Just bought a segment, read about someone adding a slackset and another with longer forks on a gyro.
If it's been perfect why bother chasing the latest fad?
For me I'm jumping from 2004 to 2017 and expecting a big change.
I still have one, and here in N Wales its pribably my goto bike. I put a -2° angleset in it. I run it 1x10, with Hope enduro 29 wheels. I have a reverb and carbon bars. I have added some spacers to the RS shock. I love it.
I have a pr of 140mm Pikes to fit to it. Im pretty sure its rated for 120mm, but it will correct BB height and make it a bit more gnarr.
Its my goto bike despite me having lots of other bikes to ride...160mm cf enduro, 26" Cf HT xc bike, 29 CF rigid bike and more.....
Thanks that's really useful.
I ran mine with 140 forks without any problem. I'm sure when they first came out they were warranted for 140 but changed it when the 29er Five was released.
This has made me excited to put the 140 Pikes on it now. Yeay
Offset shock bushes are cheap and easily fitted and removed.
Does anybody find the front wheel lifts whilst climbing steep stuff? I don't want to make it harder to climb with if I can help it......
.....but as a nervous descender, I am interested in the idea that a bit longer and slacker will help give me confidence when going downhill.
Will give the bushings a go. Then think about an offset headset later on.
Thanks all
Mines got a Superstar angle set headset and a single offset bush on the rear shock (the guy I bought the frame off had issues with the tyre rubbing the seat tube with both fitted). I've got 130mm pikes up front. Love how it rides. Although haven't ridden it with standard headset and bushes. Upgrading from 120mm Reba's to the Pikes was a big improvement. Not sure how much was down to the effect on the geometry and how much was just the better fork. Convinced me I no longer needed my 140mm Foxy for days in the Peak District.
It climbs well too. Definitely limited by the rider. Have to shift to the front of the saddle on really steep stuff but we're talking steep enough that it'd be difficult whatever you were riding.
Really useful thanks. Cheers and happy new year
I'd have a look at the Geo chart for the Stage 4 and see how close you can get with headsets and bushes etc.
Despite the short travel I've found I can absolutely haul ass on my Stage 4, it's faster and more capable than the travel figure suggests!
