I've currently got an 'over-long' 410mm seatpost on my Five. Wondered about cutting it down but wanna check measurements before the saw comes out!
Is 3 inch the standard guide for minimum post insertion? (3" would take the post below the top tube - but this still doesn't look like much overlap). Sensible suggestions or advice v.welcome.
Cheers.
Flog it and buy a shorter one. Worth nothing after the saw has come out.
I agree - 410mm seatposts are quite popular, so you shouldn't have a problem swapping or selling.
EDIT:
For example

er...yeah, didn't think of that......Doh!!!
p.s. if I get a 350mm post to replace it, that'll give me 3" in frame and about 1/2" to 3/4" overlap below top-tube junction. What do you reckon, would I be better off trying to get a 375mm?
Why do you want to cut it down? You shouldn't have a problem dropping it fully out of the way on a Five, and an Orange Five is a strange bike to have if you're a weight weenie, not that you're going to save much off a seatpost.
Thats what i thought; is it really worth it for the weight of 60mm of aluminium post?
Yeah, I know, it's a daft habit I have ๐ TBH, I'm lucky enough to have two Fives. Built them both myself from frame only buys. One's built up as a bit of a bruiser, but I've gone for a lighter weight more XC set-up on the other - and it's turned into a bit of a weight-weenie project now (sad, I know ๐ ).an Orange Five is a strange bike to have if you're a weight weenie
Great contrast between the two bikes though.
