Looking to buy a five frame in the next month or so. Im 6ft with shoes and unsure on whether to go with the new 17" size which I believe has the same TT as the 18".
Does anyone ride a 17" @6ft tall?...am I better to go with the 18" frame?
Any advice would be appreciated as I can't find a 17" to demo.
Thanks
I'm 5.9 and have an 18 5AM thought it was too big in lbs but advice insisted otherwise based upon my riding style, have thought about it since but don't regret it, it doesn't leave the ground easily but I like it down hill with big hits. This year I'm going to buy a patriot and the dilemma there is worse!!
The only difference between the two is an extra inch standover, like you say the ETT is the same.
I'm 5'11" (without shoes), with a 31.5" inside leg, and ride a 17". The seatpost is nowhere near maximum height and its the perfect length.
Personally I would go with a 17". Apart from looking better, you have the extra standover for a dropper post if you have/want one.
Edit: Forgot to mention I used to have a 2011 18" Five, the 17" fits me better.
I'm 6ft, 32" inside leg and ride an 18". Spot on for me!
Unless you have really short legs. I would go 4 an 18. I ride a 17 with a 50mm stem at 5.7 29 inch leg. I see a post on br where someone is riding a 17 at 6th but he had 30 inch inside leg which is short for 6ft
I'm a fraction over 6" with a 31" leg, I ride a 17" 2012. Test rode both 17" & 18" and really couldn't tell much difference, so 17" it was.
Bloody brilliant for what it's worth.
im 5'9" and ride a 18" five but with slightly shorter stem than standard and it fits perfect. The 17" wasnt available when I bought mine (2011) so couldn't say if it would fit better or not. But seeing as your taller I would guess the 18" would be better for you, but try both if you can.
Just checked my seat post. It has another 5 inches before the minimum insertion mark from where I have it. There is no way you are that much taller than me, a 17" will be fine, and they look better too.
