I decided on either of the above two on a £650 maximum budget.

Can anyone add their thoughts? I’m okay with 27.5 or 29.

I ruled out the Vitus Nucleus 27/29 VR due to the Box 1x8 and lesser front forks with non-metal bushes. I note concerns about the stand-over height on the large frame Fury; however, I have yet to see a medium frame in the flesh.

Any other additions?

I shpould've said, to get it in budget you need to use quidco and a British Cycling discount! 10% from British Cycling and 5% cashback from quidco = £637.50!

I was wandering around an Evans shop earlier and they had some Trek’s in budget. Didn’t look at the finishing kit in detail, but the frames looked great quality.
Having said that, if you insist on shopping in Halfords, I’m pretty sure Boardman bikes have it over Carrera in the quality stakes. My son had a Boardman for a few years and it was a great little bike.

Carrera has a 1 degree slacker head angle and also a dropper post. So I'd go for that.
