Hi ..Sorry if this a numpty question
I’ve purchased a new from shop One Up dropper post, straight out the box it appears to have side to side play and forwards to backwards play , ive heard of dropper posts having play but I thought they devolved the play over time I’ve no experience of dropper posts so if this normal I apologise ?

Thanks

Depends on how much play - my one up has a little bit more than my crank brothers one.

I have the 210mm drop, and id say theres about 2mm play, i dont notice this when riding though.

A very small bit of side to side is normal I think, both of my one ups and my fox transfer did this. Forward to back is not normal. Are you 100% sure the two seat bolts are properly done up. VOE I didn't do them up fully on a recent build and forgot as the saddle was somehow in the right place. This gave the impression of loads of play on a brand new post but on closer inspection you could see the play was in the head not the shaft.

Shouldn’t have front to back play - just a tiny bit of rotational based on the 2 x Oneup posts I’ve got. I’ve got a 180 and 210 and they’re both similar. I found vs a brand x post the oneups have less play - after riding the OU 180 the brand x 150 I had was annoying as you could feel the slight rotation.

All dropper posts do that to some degree @snap. Small about of rotational play and, when extended, a small amount of forward/backwards as well. They are never rock solid like a non-dropper post. Once you're used to it, makes for a more comfortable ride. Feels completely wrong at first! I've had droppers since the first Maverick Speedball... including Reverbs etc... and they've all done it. OneUp no worse.

Check that the collar's done up tight, it does make a slight difference. There really shouldn't be much play, maybe a couple of mm at the saddle's nose. I have a Oneup 210mm with a couple of years on it and it has a little more than that now.
