Being staying in Kohimarama, Auckland the last week and hence spending a fair amount of time on Kohi. beach/Mission Bay, a few things i have noticed and curious about.
There are a lot of Cervelos and similar high end bikes around, there are a lot of time trial bikes.
But i see the same riders going up and down Tamaki drive multiple times? Just very curious why? surely there are better places to ride, i know it is pretty and i guess a handy way of getting from a to b, but reps?

I had considered that, just wondered if there might be a more reasonable suggestion? dangerous roads, drivers, etc, etc.
Dangerous roads? They're all dangerous here (for cyclists, at least).
There are other places to go. Out to the Waitakeres where you get hills but have to run the gauntlet of westies in scabby old Holdens. There's a reasonably flat run out to the airport also, but that comes back via the bad lands of South Auckland. Either way, a $10k Cervelo or Look may not last that long.
Tamaki Drive is centre point of many, if not most, Auckland rides and about the only road in town that's actually flat for any distance, and keeps you well within the bounds of civilisation.
From Parnell Baths to St Heliers and back is a neat 16km, so makes a nice TT course. Indeed there used to be a regular saturday morning time-trial on that course, attended by the great and the good of NZ road cycling. Course record is about 18 minutes, from memory.

It's where the MaMILs roam on their flash bikes. Lots of other nice rides around but very few roam that far sadly !
And tamaki drive is an awful place to ride anyway but that's Akl for you. Come to Wgtn, much better ๐
